This 17-minute film presents the basics of sound beginning with it source
– vibrations emitting sound waves. We visualize the sound waves with an
oscilloscope showing amplitude and frequency. Tapping on a stretch of steel rail,we compare the speed sound travels in solid steel to the speed of sounds in air. Scenes explore both electronically synthesized musical sounds with acoustical instruments. The film concludes with ways of controlling noise pollution.
